U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has urged Governor Joe Lombardo to take action as the government shutdown continues, warning that nearly 95,000 Nevadans relying on ACA premium tax credits could face soaring health care costs. The Kaiser Family Foundation analysis shows that failing to extend these credits could more than double family health care premiums, according to the Office of the Senator.
In a statement, Rosen said, "I want this government shutdown to end, which is why I urge Governor Lombardo to push Donald Trump and his own party in Washington to work in a bipartisan way to reopen the government and prevent a massive spike in health care costs for Nevadans." She emphasized that without Republican action, up to 40,000 state residents risk losing their health coverage, as reported by the Office of the Senator.
Senator Rosen's proactive stance is further cemented by her efforts to cement the ACA's premium tax credits permanently through legislative channels. She introduced the Health Care Affordability Act to address this issue and has met with hospital staff in Nevada to discuss proposed Medicaid cuts and her plan to reverse them. She also hosted a virtual roundtable with Nevadans who rely on these tax credits for their health coverage. With open enrollment approaching, state and federal lawmakers are working to find a resolution, as stated by the Office of the Senator.
