U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) spoke on Fox News Channel’s "The Sunday Briefing" about the effects of the ongoing government shutdown on federal workers and service members. According to her Senate office's release, Capito noted that some personnel are missing paychecks while others face job uncertainty. She highlighted that certain funding, such as for troops, has been secured, but other services including the Coast Guard and TSA remain affected.
Capito also discussed the impact on Americans relying on government assistance, including low-income families and SNAP recipients, and raised concerns over the delay of ACA premium subsidies for 67,000 West Virginians. She said negotiations are ongoing but are complicated by the government closure.
The Senator additionally addressed international affairs, commenting on progress in the Israel-Hamas peace deal and the release of hostages, noting the involvement of various parties in achieving the agreement.
