The Urban Institute released a report warning that nearly 267,000 veterans could lose health coverage if Affordable Care Act premium tax credits expire at the end of the year. U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) opposed this outcome. She said on her official website, "This report makes clear that if Republicans continue down this path and jack up health care costs on Wisconsin families, they are also terminating care for more than 250,000 Veterans who have sacrificed for our country," according to the Office of the Senator.
Senator Baldwin has been active in Congress, voting six times to keep the government running, oppose Republican Medicaid cuts, and extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits. These efforts have faced unanimous Republican opposition in the Senate. Along with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), she is working to make these tax credits permanent. Over the past month, Baldwin visited Weston, Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Mount Horeb to talk about extending these tax credits, as reported by the Office of the Senator.
Senator Baldwin is working to keep premium tax credits in place to help veterans afford healthcare. If the credits expire, many veterans could face higher costs or lose coverage. The issue is part of broader challenges in the U.S. health system, and a resolution in the Senate is still uncertain, as stated by the Office of the Senator.
