In a late-night game of cat and mouse with Tulsa Police, a suspect's ill-fated attempt to outsmart law enforcement ended with his arrest following a peculiar series of burglaries. The Tulsa Police Department, sharing details of the operation on social media, indicated that one Charles Huttenmaier.
According to the Tulsa Police Department's Facebook post, it all began with a call about suspicious activities near 51st and Garnett. Officers arriving on the scene encountered a breach in the perimeter fence, and, a man later identified as Huttenmaier bolted, prompting the chase that ensued. The police perimeter, accompanied by vigilant eyes in the sky, led to Huttenmaier's discovery atop a train railcar – his attempts at evasion foiled by the helicopter's spotlight.
The arrest was seemingly the culmination of a string of burglaries for which Huttenmaier, having left a signature trail, was a prime suspect. The series started on September 19 and spanned just a few days. Hit locations included a Lowe's from which tools were stolen, an AT&T store stripped of iPads, and Sutherland's hardware store among others. Cumulatively, over $35,000 worth of tools and equipment were reported stolen, not accounting for the damage inflicted during the break-ins.
Recovered items from Huttenmaier’s car, which was parked near the site of arrest further linked him to the crimes, as detailed by the Facebook update. He now faces multiple charges including "7 counts of Wearing a Mask in Commission of a Felony, AFCF" "Possession of Burglary Tools," and "6 counts of 2nd Degree Burglary AFCF". The Tulsa Police acknowledged the collaborative efforts of their officers and burglary detectives, heralding the apprehension as a commendable feat in law enforcement.
