Shrewsbury Police have had their hands full as their recent crime report, spanning from September 29 to October 5, details a litany of disturbances and arrests, some involving pursuits with methamphetamine and fentanyl at the center of the chaos—a stark reminder of the ongoing battle with substance abuse in our communities.
On September 29, the Shrewsbury Police Crime Report noted that officers were called to SkyZone over an altercation between several juveniles, a situation that ended with the parties being released to their guardians, but also on the same day, a disturbance at a local Walmart led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Jefferson City woman who pushed an officer after intoxication fueled refusal to leave, which resulted in her being charged with assault and peace disturbance even though she seemed to have had some "liquid courage" during the incident.
Vehicle-related offenses were also prominent this week as a St. Louis man faced arrest on September 30 for displaying counterfeit tags, among other charges, marking yet another notch in his history of similar offenses and on October 5, fortunes didn't favor a Granite City woman with expired plates and Jefferson County warrants waiting to catch up with her, after which she faced yet another night in court.
But it was the October 1 pursuit that caught significant attention, involving a 35-year-old Ballwin woman fleeing on I-44 at "not-so-high-speed" of 15 mph, as she led the Shrewsbury police into a residential area until finally stopping with her car laden with drugs, including suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl; she was later transported to a hospital after admitting to drug use during the chase and this is another example of hard lessons seemingly ignored.
During this particular week, the report from Shrewsbury Police indicates that officers managed a total of 109 calls that included three assaults, five disturbances, and a mix of other calls ranging from domestic issues to theft and trespassing, alongside 31 traffic stops and 21 assists to the Fire Department.
