In a disturbing turn of events in Southern California, a woman was stabbed in the neck by her sister during what began as a routine haircut. The Simi Valley Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1300 block of Katherine Road shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, as reported by KTLA. The victim, whose name has not been released, was discovered with a severe neck wound, which officers attended to upon arrival.
According to the Nixle report, the suspect was quickly identified as Randy Mellin, the victim's sister and a resident of Acton. Initially, the tool of assault was reported as a pair of scissors; however, further investigation by authorities revealed a more grisly detail. "Further investigation revealed that the victim had been giving Mellin a haircut inside the residence when, without provocation, Mellin broke a wine glass and stabbed the victim in the neck with the broken glass," police said. The suspect was arrested without incident and booked for Attempted Murder.
Emergency services transported the victim to a local hospital, where she is expected to make a recovery. The nature of the attack, as has been suggested, appears to be unprovoked, and the investigators have yet to determine the motive behind this act of violence between siblings.
