
Springfield became the scene of a brazen theft last Saturday September 27, when two individuals targeted a donation box within the walls of the Springfield Library. The Springfield Police Department reports a pair of suspects jimmied the lock off a donation box at approximately 10:30 a.m. in an act of larceny, only to visit a second act upon the Springfield Museums at Edwards Street shortly thereafter.
A security guard, confronting the duo, was met with violence when female suspect Karly Bond allegedly struck the guard in the face. Springfield Police Officers arrived on scene on the 200 block of State Street, to subdue and arrest Bond, while the second suspect managed a narrow escape, his whereabouts remain unknown, but SPD have released a picture in an attempt to net this elusive partner-in-crime.
According to a statement obtained by the Springfield Police Department, Bond is facing a slew of charges including two counts of breaking into a depository, possession of burglarious instruments, assault & battery, and larceny under $1200. Impressively, SPD recovered more than $500 in donations, presumably spirited away during the crime.
SPD is pressing for the public's aid to locate the second suspect, urging anyone with information to step forward. Tips can be texted anonymously by sending a simple "Text-A-Tip" to CRIMES (2,7-4-6-3-7), by typing SOLVE followed by the information, or by leaving a private message on Facebook for the detectives. In light of the crime, the Springfield community ought, to be lauded for rallying together in a collective search for justice and restitution for their cherished institutions.
