Early this morning, the Springfield Police Department made a significant dent in local drug trafficking. Officers from the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) arrested two individuals, Brandon Torres and Alicia Ferrer after seizing large quantities of narcotics from an apartment on Massachusetts Avenue. The operation, which began as a quiet investigation several months back under the watchful eyes of Sergeants David Robillard and Evan Donermeyer, crescendoed into a raid at about 6:30 a.m.
The detectives had zeroed in on Torres as a suspect in the illegal distribution of heroin. Upon execution of the granted search warrant, inside the apartment, they found not only the suspects but also several children aged between three and twelve. After the children were safely handed over to a relative, the search yielded a troubling array of substances: approximately 125 grams of crack-cocaine, 65 grams of powder cocaine, and 309 pills of suspected fentanyl, along with 37.2 grams of a heroin/fentanyl mix—totaling to 1862 bags. The officers also confiscated $510 in cash, 58 strips of suboxone, and a single round of ammunition, according to the Springfield Police Department.
Both Torres and Ferrer are now facing multiple charges that include trafficking of cocaine and fentanyl, possession of ammunition without a permit, and reckless endangerment of a child. Brandon Torres, the 31-year-old Springfield resident, along with the 23-year-old Alicia Ferrer, found themselves embroiled in serious legal trouble owing to the aforementioned offenses.
