In a bid to curb the uptick in illicit activity, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has made headway with its directed patrol plan, clamping down on crime in the Downtown area. Recent strategies, informed by analysis of crime patterns and complaints from community members, have resulted in the arrest of nine individuals since October 3, according to SLMPD. The raids have brought to light various illegalities, ranging from narcotics to possession of stolen goods.

"We are committed to addressing public safety concerns through proactive and focused policing," District 4 Captain Christian Stamper was quoted as saying in the SLMPD news release. The revamped patrol efforts have stemmed from both traffic stops and pedestrian checks. Noteworthy amongst the incidents was the arrest of an individual transporting a suspicious quantity of copper wire on a bicycle who was subsequently found to be holding suspected narcotics.

The initiative didn't stop at drug-related arrests. Officers recovered a stolen vehicle, seized a firearm, and reported witnessing several hand-to-hand drug transactions. These endeavors also led to the identification and capture of individuals on outstanding warrants.

Moving forward, District 4 Commanders intends to work collaboratively with the department's Crime Analysis Unit to keep a pulse on crime trends and adjust strategies as needed. The SLMPD also plans to maintain its partnerships with other sectors of the criminal justice system, like Mayor Cara Spencer’s administration and the Office of Violence Prevention and Human Services, to ensure neighborhood concerns are systematically addressed.
