A tragic accident occurred late Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium when a stadium worker suffered critical injuries after falling approximately 50 feet from the main scoreboard to a mid-level catwalk area. According to WPXI, the incident was responded to by Pittsburgh Public Safety shortly after 10 p.m., with police, fire, and medical personnel arriving on the scene to aid the injured man.
First responders were informed by other stadium personnel - working around the elevated perimeters where gravity bears no prejudice - that the worker had fallen a substantial distance. After stabilization and securing the worker into a Stokes basket, he was lowered down to an ambulance using a rope system. The individual was acknowledged to have severe injuries primarily to his lower limbs and was transported to a nearby hospital in a critical state, as WTAE reported.
Details on the exact nature of the work the man was performing on the scoreboard at the time of the accident remain unclear. Pittsburgh's Action News 4 attempted to gather further information from Acrisure Stadium officials and the Steelers organization regarding the circumstances leading up to the fall. However, at the time of this report, no additional details have been released.
