Getting to the polls just became easier for the residents of Rockwall County, thanks to an initiative by STAR Transit offering complimentary rides for voters. The transit authority has declared that it will provide free, round-trip transportation to local polling places both for early voting and on Election Day, embodying a commitment to facilitate the democratic process and encourage civic participation, per Rockwall County.
In an effort to make voting as accessible as possible, STAR Transit will continue the service on weekdays leading up to October 31 for early voting then on November 4, voters will be able to catch these cost-free rides again, ensuring that every voter has the chance to cast their ballot, and to make use of this offer riders simply need to convey their election-bound purpose to the driver or when making a reservation by phone, or they can enter the promotional code Vote2025 within the STARNow App.
Accommodating its various service models, STAR Transit's generous offer is extended across all its services including Demand Response, Fixed Routes, and the STARNow which is all part of the larger initiative voiced by Tommy Henricks, STAR Transit executive director, who emphasized the importance of voting in his statement, "We're proud to support our community and offer free rides to vote," and Henricks further emphasized the role of voting as the foundation for being heard in community matters.
To avail themselves of this civic opportunity, voters are urged to plan and call STAR Transit a minimum of 30 minutes before their intended trip, with lines open from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at (877) 631-5278, and should scheduling on the fly be more suited to their needs they could also download the STARNow app for an on-demand ride, with the option to book from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store; the rides offered are subject to availability and logistical limitations, applying only within the areas STAR Transit services or designated STARNow zones, and are explicitly for voters traveling to and from polling locations.
