A car chase that began with Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies ended with a stolen vehicle going into a lake in Waller County. The incident started on Thursday morning when the driver of a stolen car did not stop for deputies at Cypress and 290, leading to the pursuit. The driver is believed to be dead, according to Click2Houston.
The chase went into Waller County, where deputies used road spikes. The vehicle then went off the US-290 main lanes and into water near James Muse Parkway. Reports say the vehicle sank and no one got out. HCSO and Waller County officers are working to find the car and identify who was inside, and "HCSO Dive Team was called to assist in the search," as reported by FOX26 Houston. The James Muse Parkway exit is closed during the recovery work.
Authorities are investigating a crash in which a vehicle went off the road and appears to be submerged. "It is not clear if the driver intentionally drove off the road or not," Assistant Chief John Nanny told FOX26 Houston. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the number of occupants in the vehicle has not yet been confirmed, and the search and investigation are ongoing.
