
Chaos briefly erupted at Coronado Middle School yesterday when two students were involved in a violent altercation, a situation that was quickly addressed by local law enforcement. The City of Coronado Police Department sent officers to the scene around 10:20 AM in response to the incident, which left one student needing urgent medical attention for stab wounds. According to a statement by the City of Coronado Police Department, there is currently no active threat to the school community, and the campus has not been placed on lockdown.
Initial reports from the scene indicate that the incident transpired in the school library during a class break. The officers conducted A security sweep out of an abundance of caution, ensuring the safety of all students and faculty. As reported by Hoodline, the added security measures are a routine step in such security incidents, undertaken to ensure that order is maintained and any potential threats are neutralized.
Further investigation into the matter revealed that the altercation involved two 7th-grade students, a male suspect, who is now in custody, and a female victim, who is undergoing treatment for her injuries at Rady Children’s Hospital. The violence peaked when, during a disagreement, the suspect reportedly stabbed the victim twice with a pocket knife, according to authorities.
