An arrest has been made in the case of a 15-year-old girl's fatal shooting in Cocoa, Brevard County. Jonterich Smith, 20, was captured during a traffic stop in Volusia County and now faces charges including first-degree premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), in pursuit of piecing together the events culminating in the tragedy, continues to search for another suspect, Xazavier Butler, who is expected to face similar charges once apprehended. This development comes after the ambush outside a seafood restaurant that shocked the community, as mentioned in a report by WESH.
According to ClickOrlando, the Brevard County Sheriff, Wayne Ivey, has labeled the incident as nothing less than an "ambush," after surveillance footage detailed the events leading up to the attack. Investigators discovered from video evidence that, after making a purchase, suspects in a Dodge Durango shortly later returned to block in the victim's car, from which Ka'Ryah Duncan was later found shot. The drive-by shooting orchestrated seemed to involve multiple shooters who unexpectedly fled the scene when fired upon by the occupants of the victim's car.
To bring those responsible to justice, the sheriff's office has been urging anyone with information to come forward, offering the possibility to report anonymously to Crimeline.
