In the early morning last Tuesday, deputies from Constable Mark Herman's Office responded to a security system alert at the 11300 block of Champion Forest Drive. Deputies saw a male suspect run into nearby woods, prompting a brief pursuit.

According to Harris County Constable's Office Facebook page, the suspect surrendered after being warned about the arrival of a Constable K-9 named “Tejas Briones.” He was identified as Malachi Smith and charged with evading on foot. Smith was booked into the Harris County Jail with bond set at $100 in County Court 8.

Authorities said a second individual was also seen on the property, but no further details have been released.
