In a significant stride toward modernizing building inspections, the City of Tampa has tapped into digital technology to streamline the process for homeowners and contractors, according to an announcement made earlier today. Starting now, Tampa's development team adopts VuSpex, an app that introduces the convenience of conducting inspections remotely, thereby saving time and resources.

According to the City of Tampa, The application offers two digital routes, both of which are intended to bypass the traditional, in-person inspection model that often led to delays. Users can either submit a detailed "offline field report" complete with photos and videos for inspectors to review at a later time or, schedule a live, virtual inspection that allows an inspector to guide applicants through the process just as if they were on site. These options not only increase efficiency but also embed the inspection process fully in our increasingly connected world.

This innovation aligns with Tampa's efforts to meet the demand for inspection services more effectively. According to a statement obtained by the official website of the City of Tampa, "Virtual inspections are a game-changer for how we serve Tampa’s residents and contractors,” as mentioned by JC Hudgison, Tampa’s Chief Building Official. The city's team conducts an average of 124 trade permit inspections daily, emphasizing the positive impact that this new system could have.

The city has introduced VuSpex, a digital tool that connects directly with the Accela permitting system, removing the need for separate scheduling platforms. The move aims to make municipal services more efficient and improve the permitting process for contractors and homeowners.
