Amidst the prolonged government shutdown that has rattled Southern Nevada, Three Square Food Bank is stepping up to provide critical support to those hit hardest by the crisis. The organization is not only setting up a temporary emergency community donation site but also partnering with local bodies to facilitate additional drive-thru food distribution points for easy access to necessities.
The appointed Agency Market location where residents can directly contribute non-perishable food items is now open. This move is designed to not just ameliorate the sudden increase in food insecurity but to also unify the community in a collective effort of support. In a statement obtained by FOX5 Vegas, Beth Martino, President & CEO of Three Square Food Bank, reiterated the commitment of the organization, "Uncertain times can push more households into food insecurity, many for the first time," she said. "Thankfully, Southern Nevadans take care of one another, and no matter what, Three Square will be here for our neighbors, doing all we can to create a hunger-free community."
The call for action does not end with food donations. The food bank is also encouraging locals to actively participate by volunteering, acknowledging that it takes a village to effectively address such widescale need. Financial contributions are equally crucial, with the food bank emphasizing the efficiency of monetary donations, which allows them to purchase food in bulk and extend their reach further. These details and more about how to lend a hand can be found on the Three Square's official website.
For those in need of immediate food assistance, several drive-thru distribution locations have been announced, operational on Saturday, November 1. From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, distributions will occur at the TCMI Church and Central Church - Hope for the City Distribution Center. Following them, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the College of Southern Nevada North Las Vegas and UNLV - Thomas & Mack will start to facilitate the distribution.
