A Halloween party in northwest Harris County ended in gunfire when three teenagers were shot. The incident happened at a home near East Mount Houston Road and Nanette Drive. Police estimate about 100 people were at the party. The victims were taken to the hospital and are in critical but stable condition, according to Click2Houston.
Residents say warnings were ignored before the Halloween shooting, with one neighbor telling KHOU, "I did call the non-emergency line before this party started yesterday and told them this was going to on and if they could increase police presence here," but law enforcement’s response to that call is still unconfirmed. When gunfire erupted, teenagers fled into nearby homes for safety. Resident Nadine Loftin said, "These kids were more like 16 to 18 to 19, they were young," adding, "They shouldn't have to run from a party. They shouldn't have to run from party because of being shot at for nothing."
Residents near the Halloween night shooting are calling for action from the homeowners and police. “It’s your house. You’re responsible for whatever happens,” Loftin told KHOU, adding concerns about repeated parties advertised online and through fliers. She also said, “My message to law enforcement: do better. Take it serious. Take care of your community.” The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating through its violent crime unit. Officials have not released updates on the three injured victims or any charges. A man was seen in handcuffs at the scene, but police have not confirmed charges.
