Traverse City drivers should expect a two-day detour on October 20 and October 21 as Michigan Department of Transportation finishes the new roundabout at M-72 and M-22. The closure will last both days, with local businesses remaining open, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Eastbound M-72 traffic will be rerouted via Gray Road, Cedar Run Road, West Front Street, and US-31/M-37, while westbound traffic will follow the reverse route. Temporary signals at Cedar Run and Harris Road will help manage traffic, and the section between US-31/M-37 and Cherry Bend Road will remain open under traffic control, as reported by the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Michigan Department of Transportation is working on a $25.8 million project to improve a 2.2-mile section of M-72. The project includes ADA-compliant sidewalks, updated bus stops, upgraded traffic signals at Cherry Bend Road, and a new roundabout at the M-72/M-22 intersection. During construction, some roads will be closed, with the press release saying, “These road closures will provide the safest work environment for paving crews.” Detours will be in place for two days while crews replace old pavement with new surfaces.
