President Donald Trump's recent tour of Asia resulted in the United States forming Technology Prosperity Deals with Japan and Korea, highlighting a move to bolster partnerships with key allies in the tech sector. According to a statement released by the White House, these deals aim to enhance collaboration on various science and technology fronts, tailoring regulatory measures and speeding up research and development to bolster national security.

"The Trump Administration is redefining American technological leadership by driving bilateral collaborative partnerships with allies like Japan and Korea. Each Technology Prosperity Deal offers great opportunities to accelerate scientific discovery, and lead the world into a new era of innovation driven by the US and our partners," Michael Kratsios, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said. The collaboration aims to advance American interests in AI, quantum computing, and biotechnology among other fields, as stated by the White House.

The U.S.-Japan agreement, which was signed by Michael Kratsios and Japanese Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy Onoda Kimi, is set to expand cooperation in cutting-edge research areas like AI, quantum computing, biotechnology, space, 6G, and fusion energy. On the space frontier, this deal furthers Japan's involvement in the Artemis program and future lunar missions while promoting 6G networks security and facilitating collaboration with Japan's fusion energy facilities, as reported by the White House.

Similar to the Japan deal, the U.S.-Republic of Korea Technology Prosperity Deal, inked by Kratsios and Korean Minister of Science, Information, and Communication Technology Bae Kyung-hoon, will foster cooperation between the countries to simplify operational processes for tech firms and promote AI education. This deal also considers research security and the protection of quantum technologies as its backbone, reflecting a growing concern for safeguarding intellectual property and sensitive tech amidst a landscape rife with espionage threats, as per the White House.

The United States and Korea have agreed to join the Fostering the Future Together initiative, a global program started by First Lady Melania Trump to improve AI education for children. The agreements, signed during President Trump’s visit to Asia, aim to boost scientific and economic growth and strengthen cooperation in emerging technologies, as reported by the White House.
