Two individuals died in an accident last night on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. The collision, which involved a motorcycle and a Mercedes-Benz, occurred on the westbound exit ramp near Shore Parkway and East Seventh Street in the Sheepshead Bay area at approximately 11:30 p.m., according to Gothamist.

The NYPD reported that the motorcyclist, a 22-year-old man, was quickly transported to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead. A 28-year-old male passenger in the Mercedes was also taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries. The collision was severe enough to involve three additional parked, unoccupied vehicles. Following the crash, the driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. No description of the suspect has been released, and no arrests have been made as the investigation into the fatal hit-and-run continues.

Reporting on the same incident, ABC7 New York noted that both the sedan and the motorcycle were apparently traveling at a high rate of speed when they collided. The collision caused the white Mercedes-Benz sedan to flip and strike three parked cars near the exit ramp.

After the collision and resulting fatalities, the identities of the two men have not been released while authorities notify next of kin. The 60th Precinct, which covers the area, reported no traffic deaths through last Sunday, a decrease compared to the same period last year. NYPD data shared by Gothamist shows that citywide traffic fatalities have decreased by about 15%, with nearly 170 reported so far this year compared to last year’s figures for the same timeframe.
