A tragic sequence of events unfolded on US-89 near Big Water, Utah, leading to a car accident with two fatalities. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred on Wednesday when a semi truck, heading southbound, collided with a passenger vehicle that failed to yield at a cross street. The 4:40 PM incident caused the highway to be closed for over three and a half hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
The passenger car, trying to cross US-89 to reach the opposite side, was hit by the semi, which had to lock its brakes but was unable to avoid the collision. The force of the impact projected the passenger car into the northbound lane, leading to an additional collision as it was T-boned on the passenger side by a northbound pickup truck hauling a boat. The two occupants of the passenger car, both young women from China aged 28 and 29, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The aftermath of the crash saw emergency responders rush to the site. All five occupants of the pickup truck sustained injuries that required immediate attention. They were transported to the hospital by ambulance for what were fortunately non-life-threatening injuries, as they were all later cleared. Conversely, the driver of the semi truck emerged from the ordeal without injury.
