Two men in their 50s died in a house fire on Saturday in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The fire broke out at a home on 53 Mobile Ave. shortly after 4:40 a.m. Firefighters arrived quickly after responding to another nearby call and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front and back of the house, according to NBC10 Boston.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within about 30 minutes, but the two men found inside were pronounced dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of their deaths. Neighbor Cindy Hunt, who lost her boyfriend of 13 years, said, “I don’t know what my place is in the world right now because I took care of both of them,” she told NBC10 Boston through tears.

State Fire Marshal Jon Davine said no working smoke detectors were found in the Chelmsford home where a fire claimed two lives. In a video shared with WCVB, Cindy Hunt said, “I ran out of the house, ran over to the front of the firetruck, and there was my boyfriend, his face was all black.” Chelmsford Fire Chief Gary Ryan said, “This is a very sad day for our community and especially for the two families who lost loved ones.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Neighbor Richard Bregoli said, “They had a fire over there a few times and they had another guy die there a few years ago. This neighborhood has seen a fair share of bad times,” as mentioned by NBC10 Boston.
