Two men have been arrested following an incident in Boston’s South End, according to authorities. The suspects, Jahar Pinkett, 42, of Dorchester, and Anthony Crumbley, 29, of Boston, are accused of assaulting and robbing a person inside a grocery store at 1813 Washington Street.
Yesterday at approximately 4:40 p.m., an officer from District D-4 responded to a request for a well-being check at 696 Massachusetts Avenue. Shortly afterward, the officer was approached by an individual reporting an armed robbery. The victim, showing signs of assault, told police that he had been attacked by two people. One suspect reportedly punched him in the head and took cash, while the other struck him with a bottle and threatened him with a small black object, which may have been a gun.
According to the Boston Police Department, descriptions of the suspects were released. Two individuals matching the descriptions were seen near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street. Both suspects attempted to flee, but after brief foot chases, Jahar Pinkett was apprehended near Shawmut Avenue and Pelham Street, and Anthony Crumbley was taken into custody near Tremont Street and Upton Street.
Following an investigation, detectives at the scene confirmed the identities of both suspects. A search of Jahar Pinkett revealed cash matching the reported stolen amount and a plastic bag containing crystal methamphetamine. Although a firearm was reported during the robbery, no gun was found on either suspect. As per the Boston Police Department, Pinkett also had an outstanding warrant for a Violation of an Abuse Prevention Order.
Both Pinkett and Crumbley are now facing serious charges. Pinkett will be charged with armed robbery, assault and battery, and possession of a Class B Substance, while Crumbley faces charges of armed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. They are expected to be arraigned at the Roxbury District Court.
