Union County law enforcement officials identified and arrested a suspect in a murder case within 24 hours. The incident occurred at a Taco Bell on U.S. 74 in Indian Trail, where a 911 call at about 8:49 p.m. on Monday reported a shooting. Deputies arrived to find 23-year-old employee Dantreveion Hobbs fatally shot, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office's Facebook post.
Investigators followed leads and interviewed witnesses, identifying 22-year-old Gilecio Ritchie as the suspect. He was arrested at his home on October 14 around 6:45 p.m. and charged with first-degree murder. Ritchie is being held without bond at the Union County Detention Center.
Sheriff Eddie Cathey acknowledged the coordinated efforts of detectives, deputies, and crime scene investigators, emphasizing the office’s swift response. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the case, which remains active.
