A Union Pacific train stalled Friday morning due to a mechanical malfunction, blocking several major intersections in Houston’s West Loop area. The train stopped around 10 a.m., causing traffic delays at San Felipe, Westheimer, and Richmond Avenue, according to KHOU.
The blockage extended for hours into the afternoon between Southwest Freeway and San Felipe Street. Union Pacific confirmed the issue but did not provide a timeline for when the train would be moved. Crews were sent to address the problem, Click2Houston reported.
The stalled train’s position across three busy crossings created significant traffic disruptions. Union Pacific has stated crews are working to fix the mechanical problem as quickly as possible.
