Attention drivers in St. Clair County: a portion of I-94 will be closed on October 19 due to utility work by DTE Energy. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the closure will begin at 6 a.m. and is expected to run until about 6 p.m. the same day. The overhead utility work, critical to the region's infrastructure, will take place south of I-94 at the Gratiot Road (Marysville) Exit 266.
The shutdown is set to divert traffic off the interstate to ensure safety for both the crew at work and the flowing sea of commuters. Drivers, accustomed to the free rein of I-94’s expansive lanes, will find themselves rerouted through a detour setup: Wadhams Road Exit 262 onto Gratiot Avenue, and then back onto I-94 at Exit 266. This temporary inconvenience, though it might disrupt the Sunday plans of many, aims to prevent the risk of accidents during this high-wire act of maintenance.
