The search for 28-year-old Renia Lewis, who vanished seemingly without a trace last Friday night, has concluded in tragedy. Vallejo Police Department (VPD) confirmed that they arrested 41-year-old Douglas Irwin Shaw yesterday, for her suspected murder. Just days prior, VPD had made an urgent plea to the public for assistance in locating Lewis, who at the time was last observed around 9:00 PM on the night of her disappearance, as reported by Hoodline.

Originally, Lewis was declared missing on Sunday, which led to a prompt response from local law enforcement. A welfare check at a residence on the unit block of 14th Street was initially unproductive. It wasn't until the return to that very residence, armed with a search warrant and new information, that the critical break in the case was made. There, with their efforts compounded, officers uncovered a hidden entry to the attic where they found the remains of a woman, believed to be Lewis.

Chief Jason Ta expressed his grief over the case, stating, per the Vallejo Police Department, "This was a heartbreaking, senseless act of violence that has no place in our community. I am proud of our officers and detectives for making an arrest and solving this case. Above all, our thoughts are with the decedent’s family during this incredibly difficult time." The heinous nature of the crime was underscored by the suspect's confession to VPD detectives, which led to his immediate booking for murder in the Solano County Jail.

The VPD continues its investigation and has encouraged anyone with further information regarding the case of Renia Lewis to come forward. Detective Zach Horton and Detective William Carpenter are the contact points for new leads.
