Wake County has been recognized with a top national honor for its achievements in digital government experience, securing the first-place prize in the Overall County Government Experience category for the 2025 Government Experience Awards. According to a press release from Wake County, this accolade reflects the county's dedication to providing accessible, equitable, and engaging online services to its residents.
Wake County Commissioner Tara Waters shared her pride in the county's efforts, stating, "Wake County is proud to lead the way nationally in how government connects with people. This award shows that when we put residents at the center of our decisions and invest in innovation, we can deliver services that truly work for everyone," as per the Wake County news release.
In pursuit of enhanced digital interaction, Wake County has employed a data-informed approach, constantly optimizing the experience based on website analytics to measure customer satisfaction. These efforts are aimed at enabling residents to easily locate the information and services they require. When data indicates a gap or a need for change, the county has shown a willingness to adapt its strategies accordingly.
The county's Chief Information Officer Jonathan Feldman expressed satisfaction with the award, noting, "We're honored to be recognized as the top county government in the nation for digital experience." He added that accessibility isn't treated as a mere feature but as a foundational principle within their operations. "At its core, it's about ensuring every person has the ability to participate fully in their government," as reported by the Wake County.
Organized by the Center for Digital Government, the Government Experience Awards are now in their ninth year and they commend states, cities, and counties that show excellence in digital service delivery. Modernized websites, expanded broadband access, and the integration of technologies such as AI, multilingual chatbots, and single sign-on are among the advancements that have helped to advance digital services. These improvements strengthen the connection between the government entities and the communities they represent by promoting accessibility, personalization, and transparency.
