In an effort to address the environmental concerns associated with food waste, the Town of Wake Forest has rolled out a new program designed to encourage residents to compost their food scraps, according to a recent announcement. This initiative aims to limit the volume of food waste ending up in landfills, which is a significant source of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
Participating in this sustainability movement requires a simple sign-up process with the CompostHere app, which, once registered, gives users access to special food waste collection containers; currently, there are two locations available, one adjacent to the electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the Depot Parking Lot on S. White Street, and another by the Cash Points ATM on South Taylor Street behind the Town Hall on Brooks Street, and there's a third one soon to join the ecologically conscious fleet located by the playground at the Joyner Park Community Center on Harris Road wherein it's planned to go live on November 10.
The CompostHere app facilitates user engagement by providing real-time data on the fill-level of the collection containers, enabling messaging with staff for queries and concerns, and pushing notifications regarding service updates—the app is readily downloadable from both the iPhone app store and Google Play for all interested town residents looking to contribute to this ecologically centered program.
