The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement officers, including Sgt. Kapla, to demand money for alleged missed jury duty fines.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office's Facebook post, scammers threaten arrest if payment is not made and use technology to spoof official phone numbers. Residents are advised to hang up on such calls and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
No legitimate law enforcement agency will request payment over the phone to avoid arrest.
