The Waxahachie Police Department has taken a suspect into custody following a spree of vehicle burglaries, which kicked off an investigation after reports emerged of thefts from the Pimlico neighborhood near U.S. Highway 287 last Sunday. The breakthrough came when investigators utilized home security camera footage given by residents, allowing them to identify a vehicle connected to the crimes, according to the Waxahachie Police Department.
Mapping the suspect's movements, the Criminal Investigation Division linked the vehicle to a string of similar incidents that had spread across Dallas, Midlothian, Cedar Hill, Red Oak, and DeSoto in recent weeks. Upon receiving further calls last Thursday regarding more burglarized vehicles, the familiar suspect vehicle resurfaced, and it became involved in the reported new crimes.
A chance discovery of a tracking device inside one of the stolen items led officers to a Waxahachie residence, located in the 100 block of Audra, where a search warrant executed last Thursday unearthed a trove of stolen goods. Recovered items spanned multiple jurisdictions, along with narcotics found inside the home, as detailed by the officers who conducted the search and obtained the warrant.
The suspect in question, Brent Alan Murphy, has been detained and booked at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center on several narcotics possession charges. With investigations ongoing, more charges related to the burglaries and thefts are pending.
