Williamson County unveiled its latest contribution to community infrastructure—the Expo Center West Arena, now dubbed the Friendship Pavilion. This new construction extends a nod to history by honoring the submerged community of Friendship, swept over by floodwaters in the last century. According to Williamson County officials, the covered arena measures an impressive 175 feet by 450 feet, outclassing the main arena in size and potential.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony last Friday, Pct. 4 Commissioner Russ Boles expressed gratitude, stating, "I want to thank the citizens of Williamson County for their continued support for projects that make investments in our future while honoring our history." Boles highlighted the Pavilion's anticipated role in bolstering the region's livestock and agricultural sectors, offering a new venue for local farmers and ranchers to showcase their crafts.
Additional features of the project include a pair of covered picnic pavilions and a paved parking area, intended to cater to groups at the neighboring RV park. The picnic spaces facilitate gatherings and socialization, while the parking area is designed to assist with accessibility during inclement weather situations.
In detailing the benefits of the new facility, Parks Director Russell Fishbeck remarked, "This remarkable facility represents an important step forward in our ability to host a greater variety of events and to afford existing event holders opportunities to grow." His excitement, noting the impetus the new Pavilion will provide for the community, echoed throughout his conversation. The project was brought to fruition with the combined expertise of Parkhill as the architect and engineer, and the construction efforts by Bartlett Cocke General Contractors, with a budget of $10.7 million sourced from the 2023 voter-approved WilCo Parks Bond.
Residents and visitors can find the Williamson County Expo Center—and the newly constructed Friendship Pavilion—at 5350 Bill Pickett Trail in Taylor, a site that is poised to see a surge in activity and community engagement with its expanded capabilities.
