A troubling instance of alleged stalking has emerged from Winter Springs, where a man stands accused of going to extreme lengths to monitor a woman's movements. According to the Winter Springs Police Department's report, as detailed by ClickOrlando, Luis Eduardo Rendon has been arrested and charged with aggravated stalking and invasion of privacy for allegedly using Apple AirPods to track a woman's vehicle.
The situation, as explained by the victim in a police interview, involved Rendon persistently contacting her through various means despite her clear requests for him to halt these communications. The victim described a torrent of 88 missed calls from either private or out-of-state numbers arriving in rapid succession, according to ClickOrlando's recounting of the police report. Additionally, after being blocked by the woman, Rendon reportedly resorted to sending Zelle payment requests to contact her, according to a WESH report.
Rendon’s alleged actions escalated from incessant calls and messages to a physical manifestation of his obsession, at one point securing a position at the woman's workplace, which forced her to alter her schedule in an attempt to avoid him. The harassment continued with Rendon reportedly showing up at the woman’s apartment and tampering with the fire alarm, ostensibly to draw her outside.
After suspecting that she was being followed, the victim had her car inspected by a friend, leading to the discovery of an AirPods case wrapped in a plastic bag and hidden in the undercarriage of her vehicle. These devices have a feature that allows for the tracking of their location through a connection to the owner’s phone. When confronted by officers, Rendon initially denied the stalking charges, but later confessed that he had placed the AirPods to keep tabs on the woman because "he liked her and wanted to know where she was going," as detailed by WESH.
Rendon is now in custody, with a bond set at $7,500 for the stalking and tracking charges he faces.
