Caris Adell Wade, 20, accused of driving an SUV into a child’s bedroom in Macomb County, is scheduled to appear in court. The crash happened last Monday near 10 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue and seriously injured 9-year-old Laila Breitshtrus, who was asleep at the time, according to ClickOnDetroit. A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover Laila’s medical costs for injuries to her spine, sternum, and ribs.

A lawsuit has been filed against Wade by the family of the injured girl, and may also name the vehicle’s owner and the bar that allegedly served Wade that night. “We will hold every entity, every business and every individual responsible for causing Laila this harm,” attorney David Femminineo said in a statement to WXYZ. The attorney also said a toxicology report could lead to more serious charges against Wade once it is released.

Attorney David Femminineo alleges that evidence, including bar surveillance, shows Wade was drinking before the crash, stating, "We also have video from the bar where she was after 9 p.m. We have video from that bar posted by the driver who caused this accident," and says the vehicle owner and bar could also face liability if intoxication is confirmed. The victim, Laila, who continues to recover, told WXYZ, "Right now it's my chest and tailbone when I walk," and added a message for Wade, "I just wish you would know the consequences that happened when she crashed into my house." Wade was arrested shortly after the incident, remains jailed on $200,000 bond, and is charged with reckless driving causing serious injury and failing to stop at the scene, as per FOX 2 Detroit
