Early this morning in Wauwatosa, a train collision with an SUV led to the arrest of a 45-year-old woman. The Wauwatosa Police Department was quick to respond to the incident shortly after 1 a.m., where they found the SUV struck on the tracks. According to CBS58, the woman was able to quickly and safely exit the vehicle before it was hit by an oncoming train traveling at 40 miles per hour.
The situation unfolded near Hoyt Park, with a live rail camera capturing the SUV as it first turned onto the tracks. The footage, provided by the Wauwatosa Historical Society, shows the vehicle moving out of frame, only to eventually be involved in the collision. WISN 12 News reported that their photojournalist arrived minutes later, documenting the aftermath with police present and the train stopped on the line.
Neither the driver nor the train operator sustained injuries during the incident. However, the driver didn't manage to avoid legal repercussions. She was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has indicated that this was not her first such offense but her second OWI.
