Yolo County takes a firm stance against domestic violence with the announcement of an upcoming forum aimed at increasing awareness and providing support for survivors. The event, which is dubbed "With Survivors, Always," hopes to shine a light on the resources available and promote prevention strategies. It's scheduled for October 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Davis Senior Center, as reported by the county's official website.
Leading the charge is Yolo County Supervisor Vice Chair Sheila Allen, alongside Supervisor Lucas Frerichs, the Yolo County District Attorney's Office, and the Davis Police Department, all of whom are extending an open invitation to community members to engage with local organizations, service providers, and advocacy groups that will be sharing crucial information for those affected by domestic violence. Attendees will also hear from a panel of experts and have an opportunity to ask questions and connect with services. In a move to encourage uninhibited dialogue, the forum will allow people to submit questions anonymously during the event. The forum will also allow people to submit questions anonymously during the event.
"We must continue to build spaces where survivors feel safe and empowered, resources are known, and the public knows signs of abuse," Sheila Allen told Yolo County News. Her fellow supervisor, Lucas Frerichs, added, "By bringing together partners across law enforcement, service providers, and advocacy groups, we are creating a stronger safety net for survivors and their families."
The involvement of the legal and public safety sectors illustrates the multi-faceted approach Yolo County is taking to address this pervasive issue, with District Attorney Jeff Reisig vowing, "Survivors deserve to be heard, believed, and supported," his commitment to justice and resource accessibility echoed by Todd Henry, the Davis Police Chief, who emphasized the crucial role of law enforcement in prevention and response, both in seeking justice and ensuring care. Residents interested in participating are urged to RSVP through the Yolo County website or by emailing [email protected].
