A neighborhood dispute in Yuba County escalated to gunfire last Wednesday, resulting in one man being critically injured and two arrests, local authorities said. According to a social media post by the Yuba County Sheriff's Department, the altercation occurred on the 9000 block of Deer Hollow Trail in Browns Valley.
Multiples calls to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center reported the incident around 5:40 p.m. Deputies arrived on the scene to find a male adult with several gunshot wounds. The unidentified victim was promptly given emergency medical assistance before being airlifted to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition, as per the Sheriff's Department.
An extensive investigation led by sheriff's detectives unearthed that the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between the neighbors over a shared driveway. After interviews with witnesses and those involved, preliminary findings pointed to an argument gone violently awry.
At the end of their investigation, officers took 75-year-old Juan Leon and 66-year-old Rebecca Leon into custody. Both suspects, residents at the call's location, were charged in connection with the shooting and subsequently booked into Yuba County Jail.
