Two violent events that shook Yuma, Arizona, are now connected by the somber theme of loss and law enforcement's efforts to administer justice. In a recent update provided by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, a suspect has been arrested in the attempted murder of an 18-year-old man, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix on October 27th. The altercation, which occurred on September 11 near 8th Street and Magnolia Avenue, left the young man critically injured and subsequently hospitalized in Phoenix.
The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Gilbert Perez of Yuma, was known to the victim prior to the incident; however, deputies have not disclosed the nature of their relationship and the details of the altercation. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Perez was "booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder." The authorities are seeking additional information and urge anyone with knowledge about the case to come forward.
In a separate incident, the Yuma Police Department has released new information regarding the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy, who was shot in the head at a home on September 12. The teen succumbed to his injuries a week later at a Phoenix hospital, as detailed by 12 News. An arrest was made in relation to the shooting, with 21-year-old Jesus Alexander Silva – the victim's sibling – facing charges of second-degree murder after being booked into the Yuma County detention center on October 9.
The police investigation indicated that Silva was present when the shooting occurred, but was initially questioned and released. Further developments in the case led to the establishment of probable cause, which resulted in Silva's arrest. The motivations behind this act of violence are yet to be unraveled by the authorities, as they continue their inquiries and plead for assistance from the public.
