A 15-year-old boy, identified as Robert Gunn Jr., was fatally shot Saturday afternoon in Princeton Park, Chicago, following a verbal altercation that turned tragic, with a yet-unidentified assailant firing the lethal shot, the Sun-Times reported. The Chicago police confirmed that the incident took place around 12:38 p.m. on the 9200 block of South La Salle Street.
Following the shooting, Gunn was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. This information was first shared by NBC Chicago, a verbal dispute preluded the heartbreaking outcome that has since gripped the Princeton Park community in a familiar lamentation of loss and unanswered queries into the mechanisms of such recurring violence. NBC Chicago detailed the timeline of events leading to the young teen's death.
Known in the community for his dedication to helping those affected by gun violence, Pastor Donovan Price spoke to the Sun-Times about Robert Gunn Jr., whom he baptized earlier this summer. Pastor Price remembered the teenager as a standout, nice, and remarkably different from his peers, stating, “He’s kind of the kid that you hope for.” Price has been involved with the Gunn family for some time and was among those who offered support in the aftermath of the shooting, according to the Sun-Times interview.
The Chicago Police Department is currently investigating to uncover the circumstances of the altercation and track down the person responsible for the shooting.
