Early today, tragedy struck The Edge at Lake Lotus apartments in Altamonte Springs as a fire erupted, leading to the displacement of 20 residents. The incident, reported at approximately 2:17 a.m., began in a rear stairwell's wall between the first and second floors of the complex, ClickOrlando recported. Firefighters from the Seminole County Fire Department (SCFD) managed to contain the blaze to the stairwell; however, adjacent units weren't spared from the wrath of smoke and water.
While the fire did not cause direct damage to the living quarters, 16 apartments within the complex sustained various degrees of smoke and water damage, leading to Duke Energy cutting power as a precautionary measure, as reported by WFTV.
Thankfully, officials have confirmed that there were no injuries, though the source of the fire remains a mystery under investigation.
