A tragic collision occurred in Northeast Harris County, where a 5-year-old girl was killed and her mother suffered serious injuries in a wrong-way crash. According to Click2Houston, the incident involved a 20-year-old man who veered into oncoming traffic on East Mount Houston Road near Sheridan Road, striking a Cadillac nearly head-on.
The young girl, who was in the vehicle with her mother, succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. The mother, while injured, was expected to survive. Taken to the hospital with his condition undisclosed, the 20-year-old man driving the Nissan was also receiving medical attention. Captain Albers of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office hinted at evidence of alcohol being a factor, revealing that "There’s open beverage containers and signs of intoxication on his person" in a statement obtained by Click2Houston.
On Friday night around 8:30 p.m., the scene unfolded near the Shadowlake Estates community, as reported by KHOU. Both the mother and daughter were traveling eastbound on E Mt Houston Road when their Cadillac sedan was hit. The severity of the Nissan driver’s injuries is still unclear, adding to the gravity of the event.
The roads, claimed to be "a dark roadway" by HCSO Cpt. Eric Albers, pose inherent dangers mentioned in a KHOU interview, where he emphasized, "It's never going to be safe. Even one drink can start impairing your ability to drive the vehicle."
