Announced intentions to furnish 150 families with $50 gift certificates for the upcoming holiday, these certificates can be redeemed at the local Sentry Foods for the purchase of Thanksgiving meals, a support that rings particularly valuable considering the current challenges to food security faced by many.
According to a statement City of Milwaukee, the act of giving in the 5th District stems not only from elected officials, but from the very fabric of the community's local businesses: partnering entities such as 76 Steak and Potato, BP gas station, and Lisbon Gas & Food have each played a part and, reminiscent of a collective rising to an occasion, this move serves as both relief and testament to the strength of neighboring ties in challenging times.
Registrants interested in receiving a gift certificate must enlist in advance a detail that underscores the planned nature of this giving, ensuring that the first 150 applications will secure their opportunity for holiday provision. These certificates will be distributed at Sentry Foods, located at 9210 W. Lisbon Ave., on November 17 at 6 p.m., and while construction on Lisbon Avenue presents a temporary obstacle, vehicular access for pickup lines up along 92nd Street from Capitol Drive.
