An unfortunate incident in Lake County resulted in the death of a pedestrian after she was hit by a vehicle, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol. A 96-year-old woman was behind the wheel when the accident occurred in a parking lot in Altoona. ClickOrlando detailed that the accident happened yesterday, around 2:24 p.m., and involved the elderly driver reversing her Ford Edge and colliding with the 80-year-old pedestrian who was walking behind the vehicle.
The collision led to the victim, who was from Altoona, being airlifted to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries; meanwhile, as per the authorities, the 96-year-old driver did not sustain injuries from the incident, she remained at the scene, cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the crash, where it appeared she had not noticed the pedestrian as she was reversing her vehicle.
FOX 35 Orlando added that the area where the crash took place was a parking lot located on Potters Court, just west of Lakeview Terrace Drive. The investigation is still underway to figure out exactly what happened and whether any charges will be filed.
