Community vigilance played a key role in the apprehension of a car burglar in Elk Grove. According to a social media post by the Elk Grove Police Department, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. in an apartment complex on Bruceville Road. Seeing a man breaking a car window, a neighbor didn't hesitate to call the police.
Upon receiving the report, police officers were dispatched and managed to locate the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Eric Brooks of Sacramento, wandering in the complex. The report details all five vehicles the suspect had broken into, as they were found with shattered windows and missing belongings. In the hands of Brooks, officers discovered stolen items alongside a window punch—tools often associated with burglary.
Thanks to the brisk response and the sharp eye of the neighbor, the police were able to recover all stolen property and return it to the owners involved. Brooks is now facing charges, specifically five counts of burglary and possession of burglary tools, and he has been booked at the Main Jail.
