In a scene familiar to urban roadways, the streets of El Cajon became the backdrop for a hit-and-run incident that could have ended in tragedy. According to a press release from the City of El Cajon, yesterday, a 70-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, leaving him with serious head injuries that required hospitalization. The incident, which occurred on the 400 block of Fletcher Parkway, might have joined the ledger of unresolved cases had it not been for alert witnesses and the swift deployment of digital surveillance.
Witnesses at the scene acted as the first line of defense, their keen observations providing the El Cajon Police Department with the necessary details, specifically the license plate of the fleeing vehicle. It is these partnerships between community members and police that often play a pivotal role in such cases.
The department's Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system acted on the information provided, locating the suspect vehicle as it continued its flight through the city. Meanwhile, the injured man was transported to a local hospital.
