Coconino County’s Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) in Arizona has received the 2025 Judicial Branch Strategic Agenda Award from the Arizona Supreme Court for its mobile court program, the Justice Bus. The initiative brings legal services to rural and underserved communities, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances to courthouses.

According to the Coconino County’s announcement, the Justice Bus has held seven events in 2025, assisting 134 individuals with services such as warrant quashing, sentencing, name changes, and weddings. The program involves multiple local partners, including Presiding Judge Ted Reed, Legal Defender Joseph Carver, and Clerk of the Superior Court Valerie Wyant. So far, the team has processed 26 warrants and 24 changes of pleas and sentencings.

The Justice Bus also collaborates with county departments such as Elections, Health and Human Services, and ARIZONA@WORK to provide broader community support.

The award was presented at the Court Leadership Conference Luncheon, recognizing Coconino County’s efforts to expand access to justice across one of Arizona’s largest and most remote regions.
