Federal inmate Fabian Taylor Jr. has been sentenced to an additional one year and four months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a federal correctional officer. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia reported that Taylor was already serving a sentence for firearm possession, violating release conditions, and escape.

The incident occurred after officers saw that Taylor had covered the window of his cell door. When they approached, Taylor threw urine on one officer. When officers entered the cell, he began swinging and kicking. Despite being restrained, Taylor continued to struggle and headbutted an officer, causing a concussion.

The injured officer experienced headaches, dizziness, vomiting, and sleepiness and was diagnosed with a concussion. Taylor, 38, from Columbia Heights, Minnesota, was prosecuted for assault within a federal correctional institution.

Taylor pleaded guilty earlier this year. U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Geraghty imposed the sentence on Wednesday, along with three years of supervised release. The FBI investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Boylan handled the prosecution.
