The Aurora Police Department announced the swift arrest of a suspect involved in a drive-by shooting incident last Thursday. According to social media posts from the Aurora Police Department, the alleged gunman, Joshua Busey, 21, was taken into custody hours after the crime was committed. The arrest followed a response to reports of shots fired into a residence on South Gibraltar Street around 10:45 p.m.
Witnesses provided a detailed description of the getaway car, a silver Chrysler with no plates, which played a critical role in the arrest. In a testament to the effectiveness of the officers involved, the suspect's vehicle was spotted by a sergeant and rapidly apprehended by the Aurora Police Department. During the stop, the driver complied with law enforcement, whereas Busey, the passenger, resisted arrest and refused to comply with officers' commands, leading to him being subdued after a less-lethal weapon was deployed.
In Busey's possession, police found a firearm in plain sight, which later investigations revealed he was prohibited from possessing due to a protection order. It was also confirmed that the shooting was a targeted event, not a random act of violence. Currently, Busey is being detained on no bond and faces multiple charges, including illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal mischief, possession of a large-capacity magazine, domestic violence, violation of a protection order, and prohibited use and possession of a weapon, as affirmed by the Aurora Police Department.
