A routine traffic patrol took a significant turn in Aurora last week when officers on duty noticed a black Mercedes without a front license plate entering a car wash, an odd choice given the time was reported to be 9 p.m., not exactly peak hours for vehicle cleaning. According to a social media post from the Aurora Police Department, the ensuing encounter led to the discovery of three illegal firearms.
Upon initiating contact with the vehicle's occupants, one back seat passenger was recognized by an officer as someone with a history of weapons-related incidents, tied to what is known in the community for illegal arms and violent offenses. The officers' instincts, coupled with the passengers' nervous behavior, prompted a vehicle search. The search uncovered "three illegal guns, including: a Glock 19 with a loaded magazine, a Sig Sauer P320, also with a loaded magazine, and a Glock 21 with a 27-round extended magazine," as stated by the Aurora Police Department.
The involved passenger later confessed to acquiring at least two of the firearms using an online app without undergoing any form of background check. This revelation highlights a troubling facet of modern gun violence: the ease with which lethal weapons can be obtained under the radar of regulatory systems designed to prevent such transactions.
